DBPA: New Member Count

Understanding the NEW - New Member Count

The New Member Count is simply that, the number of new members in the PleoWorld forums. This numer is found by simply subtracting the number of members yesterday from the number of members at the end of this day.

The logic for this index is that the more members there are in the forums, the more interest there must be in pleo. Unfortuneatly, this number never decreases as once you sign up, you are always a member. But as the RATE that members join goes down, the less interest there is in pleo. This is a direct way to track those who are "involved."

Usually there will be a spike in interest whenever there is a new software release, as members are forced to log in to download the updates. And, with the updates, people will browse the forums looking for information about the update and/or comment on their experiences with the update.

New members are always joining, and are active when they first join. Existing members drop off the active list after not logging in for thirty days. So, the number of active members on a given day reflects the addition of new members joining, and subtracting existing active members who are no longer active. An increase in 3, may be due to 53 new members and 50 members dropping off.

Explaining the formulas

The formula for the NEW is just the number of members at the end of the day minus the number of members at the end of yesterday.

For the DBPA, we take the number of new members at the end of the day, and add that. [ + NEW ]

The information displayed for the AMI in the DBPA chart are:

  • An arrow indicating the direction of change. A green up-arrow means the value is higher than yesterday, red down arrow means the value is lower, a black horizontal line indicates no change.
  • The NEW (112)

The NEW also influences the Active Member Ratio (AMR).
