Understanding the PTR - Posts to Threads Ratio
The Posts to Threads Ratio is simply the total number of posts
divided by the total number of threads. This gives us an overall average of how many posts each
thread gets.
The logic for this index is that the more interesting a thread is, the more responses are
posted to it. If a thread only gets a few responses, then it must not be very interesting. If there
are more interesting threads than boring ones, this ratio will be high. If there isn't much interest
in pleo, then the forums won't get many posts, and the threads will have fewer responses. We are not
directly tracking the number of new posts daily, but hopefully a lot of new posts will increase this
ratio. This is a more indirect way to track interest, and as such is more indicative of trends up or
down rather than daily fluctuations.
Usually there will be a spike in interest whenever something happens to spark a lot of
discussions, like a new software release or major announcement by Ugobe.
This index may be severly affected due to cleanup efforts by the forum admins.
